Treating Addictive Disorders: A Strengths-Based Approach - Higher Thought Institute
Session Description

The COVID 19 pandemic has contributed to an increase in substance abuse of alcohol and opioid overdoses. The curtailment of live AA meetings and other treatment services has exacerbated the challenge. In this workshop, Dr Meichenbaum will provide a  strengths- and evidenced -based  treatment  approach that contributes to “lasting behavioral changes” in addicted  clients.  He will present a Case Conceptualization Model of risk and protective factors that informs both assessment and treatment decision-making. He will discuss ways to implement  Constructive Narrative treatment approaches and discuss ways ot implement the Core Tasks of therapy including ongoing psychoeduation,  collaborative goal-setting, skills training that incorporates generalization guidelines, relapse prevention procedures and Feedback Informed treatment protocols. How to conduct integrated  treatment with clients with co-occurring disorders will be addressed. Ways to bolster clients’ resilience will also  be discussed .Finally, how to spot HYPE in the field of psychotherapy will also be addressed. A detailed HANDOUT will be provided.

Participants will be able to:
