The Spectrum of Emotions: A Scheme for Trauma and Addiction (1.5 Clinical CE) - Higher Thought Institute
In this workshop, Mrs. Engle will share her Integrated Addiction Model.  This model will explain the developmental effects of unresolved pain/trauma and the resulting patterns of unhealthy emotional responding. These unhealthy patterns serve to minimize emotional pain by creating a disconnect between the mind and body, thus reducing the overall integrated experience. This mind/body disconnect then becomes the underlying dissociative root that drives the symptoms behind most, if not all, substance use and mental health disorders and many physical symptoms.

To further illustrate this dynamic, as well as to provide specific treatment techniques for the best integrative approach, she will review the Spectrum of Emotions.  This concise and easy to follow diagram will discriminate between healthy and unhealthy emotions and will identify the corresponding psychiatric and medical diagnoses.  It is used to teach clients about feelings and guiding therapy. Mrs. Engle will go through many different emotions within this framework, and will provide cognitive and experiential strategies for helping clients learn how to self-regulate and manage their feelings from an integrated place.  Clinical examples, case vignettes, and research results will be shared.
