Addressing the Unmet Needs of LGBTQ Patient (1.5 Clinical CE) - Higher Thought Institute
In this workshop, the presenter will discuss: many unique and diverse needs of patients from the LGBTQ+ community who struggle with Substance Use Disorder, common barriers to treatment and inclusive care often experienced by this population, as well the process the Gateway Foundation team engaged in creating the Out in Recovery Program. Early treatment outcomes and patient case studies will also be shared. This will give the audience an enhanced ability to treat the LGBTQ patient.

 

Learning Objectives:

 

1)           Participants will be able to describe the common factors behind higher rates of substance use and behavioral health issues in the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the need for inclusive care and treatment practices.

2)           Participants will be able to explain the development needs in serving the LGBTQ+ population as an individual clinician, or as an organization.

3)  Participants will be able to identify ways in which therapeutic modalities may need to be tailored or adjusted in order to effectively work with some LGBTQ+ people
